On Saturday, September 21, members of the Bartlett High Speech and Debate team attended their first competition of the season at Portland High school.  Maranda Mays and Sarah Cornelison placed 2nd in Duo Interpretation and Katlyn Young placed 5th in Storytelling.  Joe Kusmierz and Jaden Wiley competed in storytelling. Josh Morrow competed in Prose.

The Panther Playhouse at Bartlett High School presents PIPPIN by Roger O. Hirson with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz. This production runs April 4th-7th at the Bartlett Performing Arts and Conference Center.

A mysterious troupe of circus performers, guides Pippin, son of King Charlemagne, on his quest to find an extraordinary life.  Pippin searches through the glories of the battlefield, the temptations of the flesh, and the intrigues of political power, only to ultimately discover true happiness is found in every day, ordinary life. 
 
The production stars Shy’Kira Allen (Leading Player), Caleb Medlin (Pippin), Noah Jobbins (Charles), Simon Sutton (Lewis), Rachel Henry (Fastrada), Anna Wright (Berthe), Ella Sego (Catherine), and Steele Bowers (Theo). This production is directed and choreographed by Kirie Walz, musical direction by Paul Whited, with technical direction by Kevin Rogers, and orchestra direction by Jessica Burmingham.

The Panther Playhouse at Bartlett High School presents 12 ANGRY JURORS based on the Emmy winning television movie by Reginald Rose and adapted by Sherman L. Sergel. This production runs from October 18th-21st at the Bartlett Performing Arts and Conference Center.

Following the closing arguments in a murder trial, the twelve members of the jury must deliberate, with a guilty verdict meaning death for the accused, an inner-city teen. As the dozen jurors try to reach a unanimous decision while sequestered in a room, one juror casts considerable doubt on elements of the case. Personal issues soon rise to the surface, and conflict threatens to derail the delicate process that will decide one boy's fate.
 
The production stars Simon Sutton (Juror 8), Josh Morrow (Juror 3), Joe Kusmierz (Foreman), Kaelin Mitchell (Juror 4), Lucas Dabney (Juror 9), and Taina Pardo (Juror 11). The cast also includes Riya Golden, Sarah Cornelison, ShyKira Allen, Liz Bennett, Ben Sutton, Caleb Medlin, and Sun-Mi Ko. This production is directed by Kirie Walz with Kevin Rogers as the technical director.

Panther Playhouse at Bartlett High School
 
The Panther Playhouse at Bartlett High School presents Disney’s TARZAN with music and lyrics by Phil Collins and book by David Henry Hwang.  The production runs March 1-10 on the Panther Playhouse Mainstage at Bartlett High School.
 
Based on Disney’s 1999 animated film, an infant boy washed up on the shores of West Africa is taken in and raised by gorillas who name him Tarzan. Apart from striving for acceptance from his ape father, Tarzan's life is mostly monkey business until a human expedition treks into his tribe's territory, and he encounters creatures like himself for the first time. Tarzan struggles to navigate a jungle, thick with emotion, as he discovers his animal upbringing clashing with his human instincts.  This touching story of love and family is one for the ages. 
 
This high flying musical stars Caleb Medlin (Tarzan), Kaelin Mitchell (Jane), Shy’Kira Allen (Kala), Joe Kusmierz (Kerchak), Simon Sutton (Terk), Jacob Priddy (Porter), and Josh Morrow (Clayton).  The cast also features Nick Shelhamer, Nylan Barr, Waverly Watkins, Rachel Henry, and ensemble members Gabby Bartolome, Elizabeth Bennett, James Chapman, Sarah Cornelison, Luke Dabney, McKenna Fleshman, Lydia Girard, Kaelyn Grubbs, Noah Jobbins, Yasin Karadas, Sun-Mi Ko, KJ Mauwong, Olivia Morrison, Jacob Peirce, Courtney Powell, Jack Powell, Brianna Rebich, Holden Rogers, Ella Sego, and Katlyn Young.

Leon Tolchinsky is ecstatic. He's landed a terrific teaching job in an idyllic Russian hamlet. When he arrives he finds people sweeping dust from the stoops back into their houses and people milking upside down to get more cream. The town has been cursed with Chronic Stupidity for 200 years and Leon's job is to break the curse. No one tells him that if he stays over 24 hours and fails to break the curse, he too becomes Stupid. But, he has fallen in love with a girl so Stupid that she has only recently learned how to sit down.
